Frequently Asked Questions

Wondering Who Goes To Therapy?

You’re not alone! Many people wonder who goes to therapy. The answer is many types of people! Years ago, therapy was stigmatized, seen as something only weak or very sick people sought. Things have changed. Now people from many backgrounds and with diverse needs seek therapy. Some common reasons for therapy include personal growth, temporary or long-term depression, anxiety, stress, substance abuse, relationship issues, improving communication skills, and understanding how the past affects the present. No matter why you’re considering therapy, your reason is a good one. If you have doubts or questions, please contact me.

How Long Does Therapy Take?

The length of therapy varies. Ultimately it’s up to you, since you know better than I what your goals are. If you want short-term therapy, I work very hard to offer tailored sessions that quickly address your needs. If you have broader or less specific goals, I can work within that framework. The length of therapy depends on the issues you wish to address, the nature of the problem, and the work you do between sessions. But the process is collaborative, and I will always check in with you about how it’s going and how you’re progressing.

How Often Do I Come for Therapy?

This is an individual decision. Most of my clients meet with me weekly, but some come every other week and some even less. It’s customary to begin meeting weekly, and when you are making progress you may wish to reduce the number of times you see me and “taper down”. I’m flexible and ultimately want you to choose the schedule you’re comfortable with.

How Do I Make an Appointment?

If you are unsure about starting therapy, please feel free to contact me with any questions. If you would like to make an appointment, the best way is to call me, and we can discuss times and days that work for your schedule. If it’s more convenient to email me, you may also use the contact form.

Do You Accept Health Insurance?

Currently, I am accepting Molina, Medicare, and Tricare.  If your insurance is not listed here, you may be able to utilize your insurance benefits by asking your insurance company if you have out-of-network benefits. If so, I can provide you with the necessary and completed paperwork for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. The amount reimbursed varies and you would need to talk that over with your insurance company.
